Why Sponsorship Deserves a Place in your Next Media Plan

Ask ten sponsorship professionals how they got into the craft, and nine will tell you some version of the same story: through a marketing job that evolved, through an internship that stuck, through chance. Almost nobody deliberately chose a sponsorship degree simply because one barely exists.

A craft without a structural pipeline

Marketing, communications and sports management are widely taught at Belgian colleges and universities. Sponsorship as a specific discipline, with its own negotiation dynamics, measurement methods and legal aspects, rarely appears as a separate subject.

The result: every generation rediscovers the wheel

Without a shared curriculum, each new cohort of professionals learns the basic principles again through trial and error. Knowledge already built elsewhere stays locked within individual companies instead of moving the whole sector forward.

What BSA Education does in practice

We map existing initiatives, work with educational institutions on guest lectures and case studies, and actively support setting up internship placements at our members. This way, we help build a generation that already knows sponsorship before their first job.

What you can do

Do you work at a college or university and want to include sponsorship in your mediaplan? Or are you a BSA member happy to offer an internship or give a guest lecture? Get in touch via our Education page.
