2026 Sponsorship Trends: What Brands and Rights Holders in Belgium Need to Know Now

The sponsorship market is changing faster than the contracts written about it. Where sponsorship once mainly bought visibility, a logo, a board, a mention, today it revolves around measurable activation, shared values and long-term relationships. For the Belgian market, we see five trends that separate sponsors creating value from sponsors merely spending budget.

1. Measurability becomes the norm, not the exception

Where "visibility" used to be enough as a report, budget holders today expect concrete KPIs: reach, engagement, sentiment, and ideally a link to revenue or leads. Sponsors without a measurement plan at the start of a partnership find it increasingly hard to get a seat at the table for the next budget round.

2. Micro-sponsorship gains ground on big names

Instead of one big logo on one big event, budgets are shifting toward multiple smaller, more relevant partnerships with local clubs, niche communities or emerging initiatives. The result is often higher relevance per euro, though it demands more management.

3. Activation gets a bigger share of budget than the sponsorship fee itself

The rule of thumb that you spend at least as much on activation as on the sponsorship fee itself is increasingly becoming standard practice in Belgium rather than the exception. A logo without an (digital) activation plan delivers little more than name recognition.

4. Sustainability and social relevance weigh into partner selection

Brands are more actively choosing rights holders and events that align with their values, not purely from a marketing angle, but because both the public and their own employees expect it.

5. Sponsorship professionalisation: training and network gain importance

Precisely to keep pace with these trends, demand is growing for structural knowledge sharing and networks such as BSA where rights holders, brands and agencies learn from each other instead of each reinventing the wheel separately.
